Special assignments or projects by a member of the CVB staff may include, but are not limited to, stuffing envelopes, preparing visitor information packets, and more. Dates and hours will vary throughout the year. A volunteer will have passion for local residents and tourists, our community, and overall Aberdeen image.
Storybook Land Visitor Center-Information Center Volunteer
The Storybook Land Visitor Center-Information Center serves to assist local residents and travelers as they visit Aberdeen and Storybook Land-Wylie Park. Volunteer duties will include, but are not limited to, working with the CVB greeting visitors; answering visitor questions about Storybook Land and the community; and making recommendations that would encourage them to stay longer in our city. When visitors are not present, volunteers are stocking and organizing rack shelves and performing other assigned duties as they arise.
The Visitor Center is open seven days a week. Volunteer are needed from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM or 1:00 - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, May through September.
Each year Aberdeen is pleased to host SDHSAA sanctioned tournaments. Dates and hours will vary. The Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and many dedicated volunteers coordinate an impressive hospitality room for coaches, athletic directors, school staff, media, officials, and volunteers to eat, relax, and enjoy the tournament from a birds-eye view. Volunteer duties will include, but are not limited to working with the CVB providing food service, offering room clean-up, and displaying genuine hospitality to event goers.
Customer Service Training
Each year the Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and SD Department of Tourism are proud to celebrate the value of visitors during the first full week of May known as National Travel and Tourism Week. During this week we celebrate with festivities congratulating our community for their efforts in welcoming visitors to our community. Duties may include, but are not limiteed to working with the CVB brainstorming customer service speakers, coordinating customer service event, suggesting fun NTTW incentives and prizes, and awarding community with appreciation gifts.
Aberdeen, SD is known for its unforgettable hunting opportunities. Each year the Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Aberdeen area celebrates Rooster Rush as hunters from all over arrive in our area to pheasant hunt. Duties include, but are not limited to working with the CVB decorating Aberdeen entrances, decorating businesses, creating contests/incentives boosting community involvement, suggesting promotional items, and welcoming hunters at the airport opening hunting weekend.
