Pheasant
South Dakota is famous for the Chinese Ring-Neck Pheasant, the most sought-after upland game bird in existence. Dense pheasant populations can be found throughout northeastern South Dakota, and ample public hunting areas provide an excellent hunting experience. A listing of private landowners who allow hunting on their property is available upon request.
Season
The regular season traditionally opens the third Saturday in October each year, with the 2-day youth session on the first weekend in October. A 3-day resident-only season takes place Saturday - Monday after youth season.
Licensing
A small game license is needed to hunt pheasants. Nontoxic shot is required when hunting pheasant on most public lands.
